01 · Vedic astrology

About Vedic Astrology

Most people arrive here having only known Western astrology. These are the differences that matter.

What is Vedic astrology?

Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish — "science of light" — is an ancient astrological system from India based on precise astronomical observation.

Unlike Western astrology, it uses the sidereal zodiac: it is calculated according to the actual, current positions of the stars and constellations, correcting for the Earth's axial shift (precession) over thousands of years.

How is it different from Western astrology?

Western (tropical) astrology is based on the seasons and the sun's position at the vernal equinox — fixed to where the stars were roughly 2,000 years ago. Because of the Earth's precession, that system has drifted about 24° from where the constellations actually sit today.

Vedic astrology corrects for this drift using a calculation called the Ayanamsha, keeping it aligned with the real, current sky. It is also why your Vedic sign is often different from your Western one.

Why does the difference matter?

Western astrology tends to focus on personality and psychology. Vedic astrology focuses on karma, life timing, and the deeper patterns shaping your journey.

Many students find it offers a more precise and resonant picture of their life path, relationships, and opportunities.

02 · Joni Patry

About Joni

Founder and lead instructor of the University of Vedic Astrology, founded in 2016.

Who is Joni Patry?

Joni Patry has been reading charts for more than 45 years. She has given consultations to world leaders and celebrities, published 15 books, and appeared widely on national and international television. Her YouTube teaching has been watched more than 70 million times.

She was a faculty member for ACVA and CVA, is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and lives in Dallas, Texas.

Has she predicted real events before they happened?

Yes. Her publicly documented predictions include the 2011 Japan earthquake — called a month in advance — Bitcoin's rise in 2017, Trump's 2016 election win, and President Trump's 2020 COVID diagnosis, among others.

Does Joni teach the classes herself?

Yes. Every class in all six semesters is taught by Joni. She also hosts the live webinars every other week and personally conducts the final certification exam.

03 · Certification & curriculum

Certification & Curriculum

Six semesters, forty-seven classes, and a final exam conducted by Joni.

How is the certification structured?

There are 6 semesters of eight items each — 47 classes plus a final exam, where the eighth item of semester six is the exam itself.

The first five semesters each end with a test your tutor grades. Semester six is supervised by your tutor as you complete your assignments and a live reading; Joni conducts the final exam.

What does each semester cover?

Semester 1 — Foundations of Vedic Astrology. Reading a birth chart: planets, signs, houses, aspects and yogas.

Semester 2 — Predictive Tools and Deeper Insights. Planetary timing systems, transits, eclipses and divisional charts.

Semester 3 — Chart Interpretation and Predictive Practice. Applying transits, dashas and yogas to real-world case studies.

Semester 4 — Global Events and Collective Karma. Predicting world events using eclipses, transits and historical cases.

Semester 5 — Timing, Remedies, and Deeper Techniques. Solar returns, electional astrology, compatibility, remedies and chart rectification.

Semester 6 — Professional Practice and Final Mastery. Full readings, remedies and launching your own practice, supervised by your tutor, closing with the final exam conducted by Joni.

Do I need prior experience with astrology to start?

None. Semester 1 starts from the chart itself — what the planets, signs and houses are and how they work together. Most students arrive knowing a little Western astrology or nothing at all, and both work fine. If you do know Western astrology, Joni shows you where the two systems part company, which is usually the more disorienting starting point of the two.

Is there a shorter way to try the teaching first?

Yes — the crash course is two recorded classes with Joni, about six hours, covering the whole framework and then the timing, with four real charts read end to end.

04 · How it works

How the Programme Works

Is the programme self-paced or scheduled?

Both. Classes are hosted on Thinkific, so you can watch them and take your tests anytime, on any device.

If you follow the live group cohort, each semester takes about 8 weeks with short breaks built in, and the certification runs six semesters — but you are free to go faster or slower on your own schedule.

What kind of support do I get along the way?

Real human tutors — paired with you to answer questions and grade your tests. No automated grading.

Live webinars with Joni — every other week, covering current events and open Q&A, recorded for anyone who cannot attend live.

Peer community — a student forum on Telegram, connecting you with classmates around the world.

Once I have attended a live webinar, do I lose access to future ones?

No. Once you join a semester you have lifetime access to live Zoom classes going forward, even years later.

What happens in the first 24 hours after I sign up?

You will receive a welcome note with the login links and password for the University website.

05 · Cost & payment

Cost & Payment

How much does the certification cost?

Each semester is $1,297. Taken one at a time, the six semesters come to $7,782. The full-certification bundle is $6,485 — a saving of $1,297, effectively one semester free.

Can I pay per semester, or is it all upfront?

Either. You can pay semester by semester as you go, or pay for all six upfront and save $1,297.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. Payments for a single semester or the full certification can be broken into smaller installments over time.

Is there a benefit to paying in full besides the saving?

Yes. Students who have paid for all six semesters can sit in on any live webinar, regardless of which semester's tests they are currently working through. Many students say this is the biggest perk of paying in full.

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

[Needs input — refund and cancellation terms. Cannot publish without this answer.]

06 · After graduation

After Graduation

What can I do once I am certified?

Certification is the beginning of a practice, not the end of a programme. Graduates can:

Become a paid tutor for new students.

Write for Joni Patry's Astrology Insights.

Build their own astrology practice or business.

Create and sell their own course on the UVA platform, earning ongoing royalties from student sign-ups.

Do graduates get any ongoing perks?

Yes — exclusive discounts to astrology conferences and events, plus lifetime access to live Zoom classes.

Can I take readings for clients while still studying?

Many students begin reading for friends and family early on. Paid readings listed through the University come after certification, once your work has been reviewed by your tutor and Joni.

07 · Logistics

Logistics

What platform are the classes hosted on?

Thinkific, accessible from any computer or phone.

Where can I see the live class schedule?

On the Current Students page, alongside the webinar recordings.

How do I book a reading with a UVA graduate?

Through the Book a Reading page, where you choose your graduate and a time in your own timezone.

What does a reading cost, and how does it work?

Readings run one hour by video, and a recording is sent to you afterwards.

$350 — natal, child, Muhurta, and yearly-update readings.

$400 — relationship compatibility.

$890 — chart rectification.

You can reschedule any time with more than 24 hours' notice. Inside 24 hours, and for cancellations, the fee is not refunded.

I am already a student — where do I go?

The Current Students page.

What is the Galactic Planner?

A separate calendar tool, not part of the certification — it tracks planetary timing day by day. Students often use it alongside their studies.
